The Doors

Experiment with Colour and Light

Project objective: The starting point was pure technical curiosity – a desire to think outside the box and see how simple shapes in Blender would react to radical experiments with colour and sparse, spot lighting. Instead of striving for photorealism, I focused on searching for form and mood by simplifying the scene as much as possible.

Analogue Control in a Digital Space

Concept and Research: While working on this project, the key question was: how to combine raw, uncompromising brutalism with organic forms without losing the desired atmosphere? I wondered if simple architectural forms alone would be enough to carry the emotional weight of this scene.

Workflow and Technology: The foundation of the project was the desire to develop a proprietary workflow for colour illustrations, based on the native capabilities of Blender 3D. Using this tool gave me unprecedented control over colour and light. Each object in the scene was covered with a procedurally generated structure and texture, which allowed me to avoid digital sterility in favour of a more tangible character.

Control: In digital illustration, I do not accept a lack of influence on the final conditions of the image. This experiment proved that proper use of shaders not only allows for precise colour breakdown and shading, but also gives full control over the composition – sometimes even independently of the laws of light physics. This is the moment when technology ceases to be a limitation and begins to serve intuition.

Summary: I consider this project a milestone in understanding the challenges I face as an illustrator. Each render brings me closer to the aesthetic I love and want to see in my work – a place where mathematical precision meets a dirty, organic soul.
